13-year-old Mo’ne Davis helped lead the Philadelphia Taney Dragons to a huge victory yesterday in the Little League World Series. The team beat their opponents 4-0, with Davis pitching her second shut out in a row!
Davis told ESPN, “At first I was scared and nervous because there are so many people and this is my first time in Williamsport.”
The pitcher threw fastballs up to 70 miles per hour, and had the crowd going wild. She is the 18th girl to play in the history of the Little League World Series. Her mom, LaKeisha McLean, was obviously beaming and proud from the stands.
The girl’s got spirit. She even challenged Dodgers All-Star Clayton Kershaw to a pitch-off, and he accepted.
The teen also has the attention of other athletes in the sports world:
This youngster is striking everybody out and she is a girl. I love it. #itsanewday

Even the FLOTUS was paying attention:
Congrats to Mo'ne Davis on becoming the first girl to pitch an #LLWS shutout. When girls succeed, we all succeed: http://t.co/6d7VzmKpZf

We’re rooting for Mo’ne and the Taney Dragons as they become the first Philly team to make it to the LLWS. Next, they’re slated to play the winner of the Southwest-New England game.
