Who is the black ballerina who has capture the hearts, minds and affection of millions of people around the world? Misty Copeland is her name and breaking down barriers is her game.
This year, Copeland became the very first African-American female principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre. Her feat sent shock waves around the world and her celebrity, admiration and love grew 10 fold on the announcement.
In addition, she has done so on many magazine covers in her glorious, beautiful style. In the upcoming Essence September 2015 issue, she is announcing a marriage to attorney Olu Evans, the cousin of actor Taye Diggs.
Talk about having a great year!
According to TheGrio, in the article she admits, “I can’t believe my life right now.”
[ADSENSE2]Earlier this week, she talked to Vanity Fair about her wedding dress and the upcoming ceremony.
‘I’d like to show my figure, somewhat – romantic and elegant,’ she said of her gown. ‘I don’t think I want to go super poofy or anything like that. It’s very different for a performer, a ballerina, someone who is onstage a lot and wears big costumes. So it’s not like this is my chance to be that way, because that’s something I do every day, almost. I want to feel like myself – but more beautiful than I do every day.’
Copeland is 32 years old and Olu is 37. They met at a New York City club in 2004, dating for the past 10 plus years and currently sharing an apartment.
This announcement is sure to bring pure joy and excitement for her fans, but not all of them. Copeland has garnered a large following of men who absolutely love and will be sorry she is off the market….as if they had a chance anyway, but hey, you can’t knock a man for dreaming.
Congratulations, Misty and Olu, may the years be kind, the love be plentiful and laughter be merry!
