Myya D. Jones is a Detroit native. Currently she is a senior at Michigan State University. To bring in the New Year Jones announced her candidature for the Mayor of Detroit.

At just 22 she has accomplished a lot, received 18 scholarships from Michigan State University. Jones worked as a Google Student Ambassador and interned on Capitol Hill. These experiences played a part in her decision to run for Mayor.

Jones wants to give a voice to the voiceless.

This has not been an easy task for Jones, who was sexually abused as a child. She also had the responsibility of looking after her five siblings as her mom suffered from bipolar disorder. Seeing the effects of bipolar disorder she could have given up when she later found out she had this disorder.

Today she is eager to serve the residents of Detroit whose neighborhoods are yet to improve.

She wants to create opportunities for people so that they have jobs to help them become financially independent. Her other plans include connecting with the youth and promoting awareness for mental health. She wants to transform and transcend Detroit by creating public parks, clean streets, block clubs as well as neighborhood clubs.
