After having his very own bout with police for the better part of a year, Meek Mill has pledged to fans that he will stop rapping about “extreme violence” following the release of his newest album Dream Chasers 4.
Rap may very well be the most expressive genre of music, granting artists the ability to chronicle their experiences however they may choose. Meek, a self proclaimed “street rapper” from North Philadelphia, is no stranger to doing exactly that and his bars often illustrate the violence he witnessed growing up in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the East Coast. He took to Instagram to personally tell fans
“After DC4 I won’t continue to rap about extreme violence!!! But I will remain to let my people know in these terrible environments to adapt and survive at any cost because “US BLACK PEOPLE ARE STILL AT WAR WITH OURSELVES AND THE SYSTEM IN REAL LIFE!”
It’s a powerful statement and oath to make, to assume responsibility for one’s own influence and make a change for the better.
Meek also urged fans to pay attention to the celebrities they look up to in another Instagram post pictured below.
In light of the violence we’re seeing occur between law enforcement officials and citizens, using your platform to speak out is no easy feat. Well done Meek Mill!
