By the year 2040 minorities will be the majority.
Yet, less than 5% of the nations tech jobs are filled by minorities!
There will be 1.4million of these jobs by 2020 and 70% of them will be unfilled!
Youth Campaigns (YouthCampaigns.org) has a mission. They want to fill those roles and increase the percentage of minorities and people from a low-income background in these fields.
To let them explain:
OUR MISSION
Create access, awareness and opportunities for talented minority and low-income youth by providing a pipeline to a career in Digital Media.
OUR VISION
Change the culture of underserved communities through Digital Marketing by equipping them with the tools to become leaders in the innovation economy and the workforce of tomorrow.
So far they have run 6 programs, with 97 participants, 60 graduates and organized 10 internships. That’s 10 young people who have actually been given an opportunity within a tech company that maybe would not have without their help!
And this is just the start.
Personally I love the direction this org is taking.
They are not pleading for help for people, they are gearing people up for the future and trying to solve a genuine national issue, in fact many issues.
They are providing hard skills and pushing people to places where they are needed.
How can I help them?
Well, they are always looking for students, so if you want to learn, get in touch!
However, they are looking for companies to provide internships, sponsorship of students, general donations, becoming a client and volunteering.
