As the civil unrest in the city of Baltimore dies down a bit, people are pivoting back to the case of Freddie Gray and the brutality of the police department. And what do you know? A document is leaked giving testimony of a witness who said they over heard Gray “trying to injure” himself.
If you are anything like me, this makes me skeptical for a multitude of reasons. Nevertheless, let’s take a peek into the leaked information and move forward from there.
A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to a police document obtained by The Washington Post.
The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmate’s safety.
[ADSENSE2]The document, written by a Baltimore police investigator, offers the first glimpse of what might have happened inside the van. It is not clear whether any additional evidence backs up the prisoner’s version, which is just one piece of a much larger probe.

A few things jump out to me when reading this information. Immediately, I wonder who this person is giving this account of what is happening. And how in the world can they determine a person is injuring themselves only by listening?
There could have been officers inside of the van beating the man for all this “witness” knows.
However, I think all of this is short misses the mark. What about before Gray is put into the van? There is video of the cops carrying Gray to the van because he couldn’t walk. They were having trouble putting him in the van because he couldn’t move his body.
People in the video are talking about how many times they tasered Gray.
Perhaps these injuries happened before he even got in the car. This seems to be lost from the dialog in the media and on social media.
SOUND OFF: What do you think about this Leak? Is this pointing to a cover up in motion?
