In its 104th year, the review made history by electing for the first time a Black president; Barack Obama, the current president of United States. He headed the publication of the Reviews’ volume 104.The young Barack, 28 years old at the time, in an interview, stated that his vision for the review was to make it a platform for debate.

He further alluded poverty and being brought up in drug environment as the reasons Black students miss an opportunity as his, though they are equally or more talented.
