Killer Mike Tells Colbert White People ‘Are A Lot More Blind Than I Thought.”

Killer Mike has quickly become one of my favorite hip hop stars. Not because i’m overly familiar with his music, but because he chooses to be politically and socially active in the community and beyond.

Mike took his show to the Stephen Colbert show last week to discuss the racial and economic inequalities facing the black community. He talks about how they, along with police shootings, have been an issue in the community long before modern times and if white people don’t want to recognize it then……

Well, let’s allow him to speak for himself:

“If white people are just now discovering that it’s bad for black or working class people in America, they’re a lot more blind than I thought. They’re a lot more choosing to be ignorant than I thought,” he said Tuesday during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

“The same problems that we’re discussing today, we discussed in 1990, 1980, 1970 and 1960,” Killer Mike said.
Everyone in the black community knows these are facts he speaks. There is nothing new happening today that hasn’t happened to us over the last 50 years in this country. The police have been brutally killing us, drugs have been flooded in our communities, the educational system sucks and there aren’t any jobs in the community.

If white people can’t see this, they don’t want to. Period.

Killer Mike goes onto to breakdown what white people can do if they really wanted to get off their backsides, take the blindfold off their eyes and their fingers from their ears to make a difference and help. Here is his advice on what they can do.

“Get outside the college environment. Find a child who is marginal or doing exceptional in school, who is a minority who doesn’t look like you — not of the same religion, not of the same background. Help that child matriculate into college, help them by being a big brother or big sister by mentoring them,” Killer Mike said.

“Don’t give them gifts. Don’t make yourself feel good, like, ‘Hey, I gave them a new pair of sneakers.’ Teach them the path you were taught to become a successful human being.”

We love Killer Mike for his raw word choice, frank discussion and evolution as a person while he has been in the limelight. He didn’t always start off as such a polished, educated, insightful speaker, but he worked on it and it shows.

What do you think of Killer Mike’s discussion on white people?
