Kerry Washington audaciously defended the controversial scene stating that it is up to the media to deal with issues that affect the society.

The talented actress also said that abortion is a difficult choice that many women have to make despite the society sadly condemning such women for choosing to terminate their pregnancies. She also said that apart from increasing racial diversity in television there is also a need to increase the array of experiences represented in television.
