You might call Kanye West many things, but boring, run of the mill, quiet and non-controversial wouldn’t be included. West pulls another “Shock and Awe” stunt to garner some attention for a new clothing line by approving the name.

According to The Source magazine, A.P.C. clothing brand founder Jean Touitou decided to name his new 2015 fall/winter collection “Last Ni**as in Paris”. This draws upon the mega hit single by Kanye West and Jay Z on their Watch The Throne album. West approved the name and give Toutitou his blessing.

Kanye-and-APC-600x315Apparently, the film “Last Tango in Paris” inspired the name. A cult classic, the film was the inspiration for Toutitou to name the clothing line, but he needed to get West’s blessing on the name before proceeding.

I call this one look Last N****s in Paris. Why? Because it’s the sweet spot when the hood meets Bertolucci’s movie Last Tango in Paris. So that’s ‘N****s in Paris’ and Last N****s in Paris. [Nervous laughter from audience.] Oh, I am glad some people laughed with me. Yes, I mean, it’s nice to play with the strong signifiers. The Timberland here is a very strong ghetto signifier. In the ghetto, it is all the Timberlands, all the big chain. Not at the same time—never; it’s bad taste. So we designed Timberlands with Timberland.

West is reported to have said, “I love this vibe” when referring to the name of the clothing line. However, he hasn’t released an official statement since the name was released.

Many people are dissppointed and disgusted by this decision. However, there is a strong contingent that feel “Ni**as are going to be Ni**as” and there isn’t much you can do about it. Not even money can save you from the ignorance in you.

SOUND OFF: What do you think about Kanye’s decision to green light this name of this clothing line? And what does it say about us as a culture and people?
