Just imagine if every barbershop around the country adapted the mindset of Courtney Holmes, a barber who lives in Dubuque, Iowa. He loves to see kids reading and wants to support and encourage their reading pursuits.
During the second annual Back to School Bash, Holmes allowed children to read stories to him in exchange for hair cuts. That’s right, free hair cuts for those willing to read to the barber.
Holmes said, “I just want to support kids reading.”
Holmes is proving everyone can find a way to give back and be a benefit to their community if they just lead with a little compassion.
You don’t have to pay a child’s way through college to make a difference in the community. Support and encourage their educational pursuits. Show them it is valued and encouraged by the elders in the community.
Wide spread small acts like this encourage our young people to stick to the educational fight for the long run. It builds their confidence and helps them succeed. (source: GlobeGazette)
