People are damn ridiculous, seriously!

Islam is a religion, like all the others. Some people, some damn amazing people, followed versions of Islam.

The same can be said for all the other major religions. Like-wise, religion has time and time again been used for bad deeds, as an excuse for bad people to do bad things.

Freedom of religion, the right to practise and for us all to be aware of the various faiths people follow must be protected, in my opinion.

Malcom X, Muhammed Ali, just to name two very important faces, both followed Islam.

So, even if you are Christian, Jewish, Hindi or Athiest, you should at least be aware of the basic teachings of Islam, right? And you’d be happy for a fully rounded school system that teaches those basics to your children, right? Because knowledge is king, is self empowerment, it breeds choice and helps us grow.

Well, one mom seems to think different down in good ol’ Tennessee.

She’s been out there spouting Donald Trump style crap like “It is time as parents, teachers and administrators we stand up and take back our families, our schools and our country.” because her kid learned a little about the pillars of Islam from her school books!

Michelle Edmisten claims her daughter’s “personal religious beliefs were violated” and wants her daughter’s schools to get rid of the text book.

Seriously?

She told her local CBS affiliate WJHL:

“How can I, as a Christian, say that I have these values? And I want to instill these values in my daughter, but then say it’s okay, go ahead and do it.”

Well, exactly what are those values that she doesn’t want her daughter to learn?

Shahada: Faith

Salat: Prayer

Zakāt: Charity

Sawm: Fasting

Hajj: Pilgrimage to Mecca

That sounds remarkable similar to the pillars of most religions, doesn’t it? Sure, the pilgrimage is a bit unique but similar pilgrimages exist in other faiths so it’s not exactly way out there!

Quite simply, this mom is spouting ignorance that leads to the wide-spread racism, fear mongering and hate we are all having to deal with today.

The saddest thing about all this is that the Mom may have actually had an influence in motions to change the social education curriculum and the Islam learning may possibly be removed!
