When I look back at women like Ida B.Wells I am astonished that anyone could have achieved so much in such hard times. She was born into slavery but went onto become an investigative journalist, newspaper editor, suffragist, sociologist, Georgist, an early leader in the Civil Rights Movement and to top it all of she was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909.

Ida Bell Wells-Barnett was born into slavery on July 16, 1862. She died aged 68 on March 25, 1931.

In the 1890s her documenting of lynching showed that it was being used by whites against competing blacks, rather than a black-on-black criminal punishment, as was being claimed by many whites.

Here journalism was such a small part of the impact she had on our modern world. Please, research some more and learn more about this great woman! Wikipedia is a decent stating place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ida_B._Wells
