HUD Secretary Ben Carson Disses Poor People: “Poverty Is A State Of Mind”

He’s back! Not to be slighted by Trump single-handedly  bringing down his administration by himself, Housing & Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson once again insulted the people that he’s supposed to be an advocate for, impoverished communities. Carson said on Wednesday in an interview with Armstrong Williams that “having the wrong mindset contributes to poverty.”

Carson said: “I think poverty to a large extent is also a state of mind. You take somebody that has the right mindset, you can take everything from them and put them on the street, and I guarantee in a little while they’ll be right back up there. And you take somebody with the wrong mindset, you could give them everything in the world, they’ll work their way right back down to the bottom.”

Carson then follows up by offering advice on how individuals can prevent their kids from having the “poverty mindset”. He said, “A lot of it has to do with what we teach children. You have to instill into that child the mindset of a winner. There’s a poverty of spirit. You develop a certain mindset.”

Usually Ben Carson saying this would be overlooked. However, he is the Secretary of Housing & Urban Development. How can someone that is the secretary of HUD share these sentiments about the people that he’s supposed to be serving. Carson sounds elitist and self-serving. If we didn’t know he said this, you’d think this was a white supremacist giving a hot take on Fox News using “impoverished communities” as a codeword for “black people”. Disgraceful!
