To help celebrate Fort Valley State University’s 120th anniversary in the Middle Georgia community, the Henry A. Hunt Memorial Library will host an FVSU Authors Series. The FVSU Authors Series is a platform created for alumni, students, faculty and staff authors to discuss their published works and insight on contemporary issues, and to promote literacy.
Eighteen-year old Fort Valley State University freshman and young adult fiction author Randall Barnes kicks-off the event on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., on the first floor of the Hunt Memorial Library. Barnes is the author of the book series The Diary of Aaliyah Anderson, which was recently translated in Spanish and added in several libraries around the world, including Fort Valley’s own Henry A. Hunt Memorial Library. The second in the series was released earlier this month and is available for purchase on Amazon.com.
Copies of Barnes’ novels also will be sold at the event. The student plans to use some of the proceeds from his book sales to aid in the relaunch of Fort Valley State University’s campus radio station WFVS-LP, better known as Power Jamz 96.9.
“The Department of English and Foreign Languages and the WIN Lab are delighted to promote and support Mr. Randall Barnes as the inaugural presenter for FVSU’s Authors Series. Mr. Barnes’ work and talent are the perfect examples by which celebrate our institution’s 120th Anniversary,” said Dr. Berlethia Pitts, head of the Department of English and Foreign Languages.
The FVSU Authors Series highlights nonfiction and fiction, as well as poetry, plays, graphic novels, etc.
Frank Mahitab, director of the Henry A.
Hunt Memorial Library, says of the inaugural event, “We hope to move the needle on student experience at Hunt Library with diverse activities such as the FVSU Author Series.
This is the first edition of an event we hope to host every year,” Mahitab said.
