During a robotics event in Indiana, a team filled with Latin and black 4th graders remains a target of racism. However, the fourth graders didn’t allow this negation to stop them from advancing to become champions. When the opponent saw the Pantherbots, they start shouting “Go back to Mexico” according to a reliable source.
At only 9 and 10 years-old these children took on racism and became champions. With team leader Elijah acknowledging the team’s focus is victory not the naysayers. To have such foresight at such an young age is remarkable. Instead of focusing on the ignorance they pushed through with a great deal of confidence and because of this they are one step closer to becoming the Vex IQ State Championship.
“The fact that they took it in stride and achieved greatness is awesome,” said their coach Lisa Hopper. These children experienced how weak and insecure people behave when they are down and actions that were meant to hurt and distract them essentially lead to their victory.
Congrats Pantherbots!!
