Many people outside of our community will be shocked by the title of this article, but we are not. Violating the law while “Walking or Driving While Black” is something we come to expect in this country, unfortunately. And those that say we will be respected when we respect ourselves are not factoring into account many outside our community are not going to like or respect us regardless of what we do.

In the racist behavior news, a black man from Jacksonville, Florida literally walking down the street and was arrested. The officers claim he was “walking on the wrong side of the road”, punched him in the face, tasered him and issued him a ticket in the process. Unbelievable, right?

You would hope. Bobby Wingate is the man all of this happened to. He was on his way to an appointment walking down Oliver Street in the Arlington neighborhood when the police pulled up next to him. He mentioned he was late for an appointment and the officers issued him a ticket for “walking on the wrong side of the road.”

From Gawker: Court papers show that the officer then punched Wingate in the face and “engaged his Taser.”

Fearing for his safety, Wingate phoned 911 for help, and explained his situation to the dispatcher.

“The conduct that is outlined in the transcript and the 9-1-1 call is not only breathtaking, it’s outrageous, it’s disgraceful,” Wingate’s lawyer, Andrew Bonderud, told First Coast News.

Bonderud believes Wingate was a victim of racial discrimination, and his claim is buttressed by the fact that, during Wingate’s trial, the officer said he “wasn’t sure what side of the road Wingate was on.”

The judge subsequently ruled that the evidence didn’t support the case against Wingate and dropped all charges.

Mr. Wingate had to call 911 on the police. SMH, this is just down right ridiculous and he is now suing the police department for the treatment he received. Hopefully, he gets a hefty pay day for this nonsense.
