The fired Balch Springs police officer who shot and killed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards as he was in a car that was driving away from officers has been indicted for murder.
Roy Oliver fired into the car of teenagers on 29th April, Jordan was in the car with friends. The original claim was that the vehicle was reversing towards the officer but that was found to be false.
Oliver has been indicted for murder and four counts of aggravated assault for each of the other teens. His trial date is not yet set.
Officer Roy Oliver and Officer Tyler Gross had been called after a report of alcohol and drugs at a party. Edwards and his friends were leaving this party. No alcohol or drugs were found at the party or anywhere. The officers heard shots which they thought had come from partygoers and that’s when they ran towards the teen’s car and the incident happened. The shots were later found to come from a nearby nursing home and were unrelated.
Gross yelled to the teens to stop and broke a window of the car. They drove off and Oliver fired.
