The Federal Communications Commission and Charter Communications are being sued for $10 billion in federal court by Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios and the National Association of African-American Owned Media. They have filed for for “racial discrimination in contracting for television channel carriage.”
This comes just a month after Byron filed suits against AT&T and DirecTV for $10 billion too, resulting in carriage deals for the media company.
In a statement Wednesday Allen said:
“President Obama and the Democratic Party have completely excluded the African-American community when it comes to economic inclusion,” and went onto say. “Everyone talks about diversity, but diversity in Hollywood and the media starts with ownership. African-Americans don’t need handouts and donations; we can hire ourselves if white corporate America does business with us in a fair and equitable way.”
The suit also accuses the Charter Chief Executive Officer, Tom Rutledge as being a blatant racist! The filing notes re 27 pages long.
Allen also has a $20 billion lawsuit against Comcast and Time Warner Cable in the courts right now!

While it’s certainly good to be fighting for true diversity in media there is a part that questions the intentions of Allen. Is he really championing the rights of the unseen or is he just trying to get contracts and make more cash?
What do you think?
