Family Turns Canceled Wedding Into Dinner For Homeless

There has been so much negativity in the world lately, we are relieved to have a heart warming story to share with you. This is a wonderful story  we felt compelled to share with you.

Carol and Willie Fowler are wonderful people. they had planned a swanky, upscale wedding reception for their daughter and son-in-law to be, but with six weeks left until the wedding day things fell apart. Life happens and sometimes gives you lemonade, but the parents found a way to turn the lemons into a wonderful batch of lemonade.

childrenIf you have ever planned a wedding, you know those deposits and payments are made long before the actually wedding, so when things fall through you are basically out of money and luck. But this couple didn’t allow this to stop them. They decided to continue with the party, but instead of the intended guess, they would invite over 200 homeless people to have a meal and wonderful night on them instead.

From Today: “My husband actually prayed about it,” Carol Fowler said. “The next morning he woke, I was in the process of canceling the venue, letting them know that we had no use for it, and he said, ‘No, we’re going to call “Hosea Feed the Hungry” and have them round up people from the shelters.’”

Fowler said she loved the idea, especially since “we were going to spend this money anyway” with only 40 days left before the Sept. 15 ceremony.

Neither of the Fowlers had worked with “Hosea Feed the Hungry” before but knew about the organization because both of their children — their daughter, Tamara, and their son — had volunteered for the Atlanta-based nonprofit group.

“At first I thought it was a prank call. I thought somebody was joking with us,” recalled Elizabeth Omilami, the charity’s chief executive office.

But she quickly realized that the Fowlers were for real — and started working to meet their wishes of gathering 200 people, preferably women with children, for a full sit-down meal at a swanky local restaurant.

“We didn’t get any cash out of it, but people found out that somebody cares about them and that’s worth more than any cash we could have given them,” she said.

“The feeling was one you cannot explain, to see the faces and hear their thank you’s,” Fowler said of the guests.

Her entire family attended the celebration, including her husband, children and her grandchildren.

What a great way to use your faith, patience, money and kindness to put smiles on the faces of the less fortunate. This couple went out of their way to arrange for bus transportation for the homeless people to get to and from the shelter to the restaurant and celebration. They had wonderful food, games, a clown, drinks and entertainment for the adults and children.

It is stories like this that put faith and love in your heart for not only the black community, but humanity in general. Hats off to Fowler’s for their love, compassion, and generosity.
