Fake Outrage Over African American Poverty Rates Linked To Chicken

Give me a break with all this fake outrage over the supposed racist comments by a Republican State Senator out of Colorado. Some of you people amaze me with the garbage you will drag into the spotlight as if this is worthy of our time, consideration, and energy. In fact, you do the black and African American community a disservice when it comes to race relations in this country by misleading the conversation in this manner.

Vicki and ChickenRepublican State Senator Vicki Marble from Colorado, although you wouldn’t catch me dead backing her, wasn’t wrong in her comments and was CLEARLY taken out of context by the reporters and black folk around the county.

If you take 3 minutes to listen to the video clip, you don’t even have to watch, it becomes apparent she wasn’t even speaking on poverty rates, but health concerns in the black community.

And unless you have had your head in the sand over the last 50 years, you know all she did was tell the truth.

Where exactly is the comments linking poverty rates to eating chicken?

Understandably, many of you won’t take the time or don’t have the time to watch the video, so let’s take a moment and view the State Senator’s comments. Here they are below quoted.

“When you look at life expectancy, there are problems in the black race,” Marble opined. “Sickle-cell anemia is something that comes up, diabetes is something that’s prevalent in the genetic makeup and you just can’t help it.”

“Although I’ve got to say, I’ve never had better BBQ and better chicken and ate better in my life than when you go down south and you — I love it.”

– Republican State Senator Vicki Marble from Colorado

Black Folks Are Crying Wolf

Please, please, please someone tell me where Marble mentions poverty anywhere in the quote, the video, speech, anywhere is number one. And number two, please tell me where she is lying?

The health issues in the African American community has been well documented. Everyone and their mother are aware we need to eat better because of our genetic predisposition sickle-cell anemia and our high rates of diabetes in the community. So, I am unsure where all of this outrage is coming from, especially considering the woman doesn’t even mention poverty in her comments.

As a community, it is absolutely critical we stop CRYING WOLF!

We have so many issues circulating around race in this country that you are doing us a disservice by blowing up this NON ISSUE in the manner you are. STOP IT!!! This only feeds the fire and conversation that we are being drama queens over race relations in this country. And I hate to admit it, but in this case we clearly are.

If you want to be upset about something regarding race, there are plenty of disparages to be outraged about.  Please select one of them. You can take your pick from the unbalanced educational funding, poor job training opportunities, the crime, imprisonment rates, the laws, positive images in the media, and the list goes on and on.

Do all of us a favor and please SHUT UP with this fake outrage over African American poverty rates being linked to chicken.
