While Slager said he carried out his actions in self-defense, a video surfaced showing a different account of events.

While Slager claimed to have shot because he was charging toward the officer, a video surfaced showing Slager shooting Scoot when he was more than 10 feet away. After pleading guilty to the civil rights violation the murder charges and federal charges of lying to authorities were dropped. This does not necessarily mean he won’t be charged for Scott’s murder. Due to Slager’s admission of guilt the federal court can still bring him on murder charges.

Only time will tell.

North Charleston paid $6.5 million to Scott’s family due to Slager’s actions.
