You may not like the images and content of Empire, but there are millions of people wrapped in the new Fox drama on the small screen. This has provided show creator Lee Daniels an opportunity to speak to larger issues.

Daniels sat down with some of TV’s best drama writers and producers for a discussion. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Beau Willimon (“House of Cards”), Damon Lindelof (“The Leftovers”), Alex Gansa (“Homeland”), Michelle King (“The Good Wife”) and Sarah Treem (“The Affair”) were on hand for the discussion, when Daniels steered it towards diversity.

Specifically, he speaks candidely about loving the feeling he gets walking into work and their is a room full of black writers writing for the mostly black cast of characters.

I don’t know what gives me more pleasure: watching my story unfold or going in and watching a room full of black people talking for me and writing words for black people.

I hate white people writing for black people; it’s so offensive. So we go out and look specifically for African-American voices. Yes, it’s all about reverse racism!

What do you think of Daniels take on Diversity and his pride in working with black people behind the camera as well as in front?
