Dwight David Howard, the world renowned American basketball player, and Atlanta Hawks center is not only concerned about his NBA career but also the well-being of the youth.

The award-winning basketball player established The D12 Foundation in 2011, a charitable organization that facilitates positive change in the lives of youth in America and girls in East Africa.

Dwight’s initiatives are aimed at improving early childhood literacy, empowering girls in East Africa through education, and helping the youth build leadership skills.

In Tanzania, he has partnered with other initiatives and the government to reduce the challenges young girls face as they search for education.

Through D12 Foundation, Dwight has contributed education resources to support school-going girls in the East African country.

He recently hosted a back-to-school event that provided 463 girls aged 12 to 18 years with locally made hygiene kits, gym shirts, and other school supplies.

Dwight said that was inspired to help solve the problems facing East African school-going girls when he visited the region to represent the NBA Cares Foundation.

He realized that these girls face challenges such as lack of enough resources, early pregnancies and the fear of being raped while they search for education. He was concerned about this reality and went back to Tanzania in 2012 to fund a dormitory construction in a secondary a school.

Since then, his foundation has been partnering with the Tanzanian government and other organizations in a bid to achieve its main objectives. The NBA star said he wishes to make the girls feel appreciated so that they can be inspired to complete their education.
