Craig Hodges, one of the NBA’s best three point shooters was banned from the league for speaking out on black social and political issues.

You may not have heard of Craig Hodges if you aren’t an avid fan of NBA basketball fan, but let me tell you this man could shoot the rock. From three point distances, there haven’t been many better to every play in the National Basketball Association than the former 3 point shooting champion during All Star weekend.

While on the Bulls in the early 1990s, Hodges won two NBA championships with the team as the backup shooting guard to the legend, Michael Jordan. However, after the 1992 season, Hodges’ fourth season with the team, he was released. It was his 10th NBA season, but there was more in the tank….or so many suspected.

After being cut, Phil Jackson, the coach of the Chicago Bulls said, “I also found it strange that not a single team called to inquire about him.

And yes, he couldn’t play much defense, but a lot of guys in the league can’t, but not many can shoot from his range, either.

Jackson claims he let Hodges go because they had an opportunity to nab another shooter that played better defense, but that doesn’t explain why any of the other 28 NBA teams didn’t even inquire about the services of Craig Hodges.

Apparently, a lot has to do with Hodges

Apparently, a lot has to do with Hodges being an outspoken advocate for the black community and using his status and fame as an athlete to bring awareness to our issues. Sounds great to us, but for the NBA and other black athletes earning that salary, they don’t want to bite the hand that feeds them so they stay quiet.

This attitude among NBA Players of remaining silent on social and political issues impacting the black community by black athletes didn’t sit well with Hodges and he said so…publically.
