The Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN for short was hoping to begin shooting the miniseries based on the 1921 Tulsa Race riots in September of 2015, but no word on how it is going just yet.
The miniseries is aimed at shedding more light on one of America’s darkest chapters in history, the first time America was bombed by airplane and it was done by America on successful Black entrepreneurs, business owners, politicians, lawyers, leaders, fathers, mothers and children.
Development of the show began about a two years ago under the leadership of Nancy Miller, the show’s executive producer. The show will feature an Oscar-calibre cast that will include Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer. And in preparation for the shooting of the series, Nancy, and her team attended this year’s John Hope Franklin Symposium.
Though the show will be based on the 1921 riots it will be centered on the family of a newspaper reporter called Mattie Clay. Thus, viewers will be able to see the devastation caused by the riots through the eyes of the main characters.
Also, although it is not yet clear when the show will air or begin filming, there is already a script. The show will be a four-hour miniseries. Given the contradictory nature of the accounts of different people, it will be difficult to satisfy everyone.
However, according to the show’s producer the creation team tried as much as is humanly possible to stick to the truth. Nonetheless, some of the happenings have been omitted to fit the show’s four-hour time frame.
How can we who have been working with educating people about Black Wall Street to again empower our people through http://www.Blackwallstreet.org get involved and also be some of the casted members in the Black Wall Street Mini-Series?
