Want to know what dedication, perseverance and manhood looks like? Look no further than a Detroit man by the name of James Robertson. He embodies what many of us wish we could could instill in our children and the world around us.
Not one to make excuses, Robertson walks a total of 21 miles, 5 days a week in rain, sleet, shine or snow to make it to his job. In fact, he has not failed to miss a day of work despite not owning a car or having a bus that travels the full route from his home in Detroit to his job in Rochester, Michigan. He walks height miles to work and 13 miles home, taking the bus at certain points and getting off for more walking to finish the route.
How many people have this level of dedication and perseverance in the world today? I wouldn’t bet many, but we learned of his story when Bill Laitner of the Detroit Free Press ran a front page story on Robertson. People were moved.
In fact, people were more than moved by the story, they took action. 19 year old Evan Leedy, a Wayne State University student, took to GoFundMe to set up an account in Robertson’s name and people responded.

As of this writing, the GoFundMe account has over $160,000 in donations and counting.
In addition to the money, people have offered to buy Robertson a car, a car service, bikes, and even offered to help him manage the donations he is receiving.
When informed about the donations, Robertson said, “Are you serious”? He was blown away by the generousity of people moved by his story and was flattered and amazed.
Great story, great man doing what is necessary to get to work and take care of himself and family.
