College Professor Fired for Defending Black Lives Matter On Fox News

Normally when college professors are fired, they’re saying racially inflammatory things on social media or the news. Their rhetoric normally is divisive and reprehensible, unbecoming of individuals that claim to be shepherds of higher learning  or cultivators of free thought. However, it’s not often that a college professor is fired for speaking fact. Well, that’s what happened to professor Lisa Durden.

Ms. Durden was an adjunct professor at Essex County College who taught communications. According to reports, her appearance on Fox New’s Tucker Carlson Tonight on June 6th sparked her firing. She was on defending the “all-black memorial day celebration that a sector of the Black Lives Matter organization hosted in May. In a heated debate, Durden told Carlson, “you white people are angry because you couldn’t use your white privilege card.” She also said that America is a “racist society”.

What she said was in no way false or a fabrication. She also used no epithets or slurs in the whole interview with Calson. Yet, newly appointed Essex College president Anthony Munroe implied in his statement that she said she hated white people with all her heart. ““The college was immediately inundated with feedback from students, faculty and prospective students and their families expressing frustration, concern and even fear that the views expressed by a college employee (with influence over students) would negatively impact their experience on the campus. I fully believe that institutions of higher learning must provide a safe space for students… The character of this institution mandates that we embrace diversity, inclusion, and unity. Racism cannot be fought with more racism.”

I don’t know what was racist about her statement but she is no longer a professor at that school. Shame for Essex County College, a place that most of us would never have heard of if it wasn’t for Lisa Durden.

It’s cool though. Her talents are better served for the big leagues, not the D-League of colleges. I see a position at a HBCU like Howard or Spelman in the near future. We need to look out for our own!
