While most teens are concerned with high school gossip, their upcoming prom or who is talking about whom on social media, Candace Hill is trying to figure out how to deal with the national media pressure.
The 16 year old track phenom burned up the track world with her performance in the 100 meter sprint earlier this summer. Running a sub 11 second 100 meter dash puts her in rare air among professional women sprinters, but alone as a 16 year old.
Hill officially ran a 10.98 second 100 meter dash. This is the fastest time ever by a high school girl. However, the accomplishment would have been good enough to finish seventh at the 2013 Olympic Games in London and tied for silver in the 2008 Beijing Games four years prior.
Sitting down for an interview with CNN, the star expressed her excitement:
“It feels great,” she says. “It just feels like nobody can catch me. I’m just in that zone and it’s a great feeling.”

Hill started running track in seventh grade and didn’t take long to find her stride.
“When I broke both state records in my freshman year, that’s when I was like, I’m killing it out there. I have a future in this sport — I can make it really far if I just work hard and stay humble.”
It’s clear that Hill is a star in the making, and potentially sooner rather than later, with the Rio Olympics just over a year away.
“2020 was the year I would actually try and want to make the [U.S. Olympic] team. When my coach threw in 2016 I was like, maybe that’s too early but you never know. I might show up and, you know, win. But it’s hard to think about right now because I’m only a sophomore.”
