Can A White Person Be An Honorary Black Person And You Accept The N-Word From Them?

Like it or not, black people use the N-Word, with an A, among one another. It is a cultural thing that has swirled around our community for decades now. Many people don’t like it, but it seems to be something that is here to stay, at least for the time being.

With that said, is there ever a moment in your life where you have felt a white person is cool enough, relates enough to our story, or black enough to be allowed to make the same statement?

white ganstaThis discussion has roots in the Richie Incognito and Johnathan Martin case of the Miami Dolphins. Apparently, Incognito, a white boy, has been bullying and making racial slurs in the direction of Johnathan Martin, a mixed individual with a black mother and white father. There is no doubt he is black from appearance, but according to some black Miami Dolphins, he doesn’t act “black” enough and they can’t really relate to him.

Martin’s parents attended Harvard and he went to the Stanford University to play football and receive his academic education. Martin speaks proper English, has manners, and maybe doesn’t relate to many of the black players in ways they feel are authentically “black”.

On the other hand, many black players in the Miami Dolphins locker room, according to ESPN, claim Incognito is “down”. They relate to him, he has swag, and an attitude that is embraced by the black players in the locker room. They actually said, Incognito is an honorary black person. In fact, he is more black than Martin who actually is black.

Can a white person be an honorary black person and be allowed to use the N-Word?

This is the part of the story I have a real problem with, the other black players in the locker room. How dysfunctional is your mind and black experience that you would ever form the words to say such a thing? This clearly comes down to lack of parenting and no knowledge of self or our history. Otherwise, there is no way in HELL you would form your lips to make such an asinine statement.

These same players in the locker room actually say they don’t mind Incognito making the N-Word comment because he is more of a black person than Martin. In fact, the reports continue to come out that Incognito would do such things in the locker room without any black players adjusting his behavior or reprimanding him. I just cannot accept this and am wondering how do you feel about?

What say you?
