“Trayvon Martin could have been me.”

The words our President spoke a week after Trayvon Martin’s killer walked away a free man. The President was emotional about the situation because he could relate to the unfair treatment of African American boys and men.

In an effort to insight change, something he knew Congress wouldn’t do, he used his likeness to take action.

My Brother’s Keeper was on our President’s heart even before he became a senator. The dream finally became a reality in 2014 in the wake of the increased brutality against black boys and men throughout the country.

His main goals when setting up the initiative was to eliminate racial discrimination, promote equality and fair access to opportunities which would assist every young man of color who’s willing to work to enhance their personal development. It also helps young men of color get early education which would consequently lead to job preparedness. However the main goal of the initiative is to, “Help change the negative narrative associated by the young men of color.”

Since the organization has been around for two short years it has achieved the goals it has sought out to achieve. One of those goals included raising money that is directed towards educating the locals, mentoring and training the men of color for job opportunities.

Within a short time, Obama has managed to achieve many of his objectives, which may be attributed to some of his personal experiences that he faced as he grew up or his position which makes him easily command attention for viable solutions.

His intent is to keep the movement alive even after his presidential term is long over to completely eliminate the racial conflicts.
