Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed many celebrity deaths. One of our most prominent losses was the death of legendary singer and performer Prince back last April. Of course prince was known for his image and standout musical career but he was reintroduced to a new audience through the vehicle of The Chappelle Show back in the mid-2000’s. On the show, Charlie Murphy would have a skit where he told “true hollywood stories” about his time in the industry with his brother Eddie Murphy.
His sketches on both Rick James and Prince are arguably ingrained in comedy history and black culture itself. Charlie Murphy was significant in more ways than one.
TMZ reports that the famed comedian passed away from Leukemia this morning. According to Charlie Murphy’s manager, he’d been undergoing chemotherapy. The news comes as a shock even to his family, who believed his condition was improving. Charlie Murphy’s wife Tisha Murphy passed away from cervical cancer in 2009. They are survived by their two children.
Just recently, Murphy was on tour with D.
L. Hughley, George Lopez, Cedric The Entertainer and Eddie Griffin. Along with his success on The Chappelle Show, he also had recurring roles in Aaron McGruder’s hit shows The Boondocks and Black Jesus. He also co-wrote several of Eddie Murphy’s movies such as Norbit. Charlie surely will be missed. We expect to hear from fellow comedian DL Hughley on his afternoon drive radio show today about Charlie Murphy’s passing.
