Black Youth Organised Protests Expected To GROW in Chicago

17-year-old Laquan McDonald was brutally murdered by police and now finally the officer has been charged after a court issued and order for the dashcam video of his killing to be released.

A small protest ad begun yesterday before the release of the video but just hours after the crowds swelled to around 300. Protesters reportedly chanted “I am Laquan” and “No Justice, No Peace” as they mounted a mostly peaceful protest against the injustice.

An excerpt from the Guardian reports

“I want y’all to recognize that this was organized by black youth,” a male protestor yelled on a bullhorn as the crowd broke their circle formation and huddled together around lighting boards.

Although the crowd mostly disappeared around 10.00pm local time it’s expected these protests will gain more momentum and organisation.

Three people were arrested in scuffles but I think it’s extremely important to highlight the fact that so far these protests are taking a peaceful approach.

Already some media is trying to play up the violence and we want to stress that it seems not to be the case and hope that he protesters will be supported and not incited into violence.

As citizen reporters it’s extremely important to try and keep this news real, share on social media and keep focused in the goals of this growing movement. Don’t let mass media taint the water and try and keep flowing.
