In Craig Ranch, an upscale community in Texas, a teenage girl was dragging to ground by her hair after a police officer approached her at a pool party. The officer also handcuffed her as he pushed her face down into the grass, despite the fact that she was following his orders.
We know this because their encounter was uploaded to the internet for the world to see. This teen, Dajerria Becton, has filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against the McKinney officer, Eric Casebolt, the city of McKinney and the McKinney police department.
The lawsuit against the former officer is for assault and unlawful detaining Becton. The lawsuit against the department and city are for not properly training their officers.
“The City of McKinney denies the claims alleged against it and the McKinney Police Department,” city officials said in a statement to the newspaper.
Shortly after the McKinney police chief publicly referred to Casebolt and his actions as “out of control,” he resigned from the department. Casebolt did say he was not targeting minorities and became suicidal following his resignation.
She was publicly humiliated and is now seeking restitution. Will she receive what she’s seeking, do you think she deserves it?
