Virginia has the 9th highest population of black people in the United states and two black owned banks. This includes a growing caribbean population and an increase in other non-white ethnicities is on the rise.
It’s a vibrant place with a lot of opportunity and an long black history and heritage, many free families and mixed race people settled here during the late 1800s but the great North migration greatly reduced the black population.
Of course, like the rest of the country, there are many reasons to bank black in Virginia. Many black banks and credit unions were formed to serve the interest of a disenfranchised black community that were not allowed to bank with mainstream white banks, they have a strong track record of reinvesting into the local community and loaning to small black business.
