There are many reasons to bank black in Maryland! Maryland has the 4th largest black population (estimated at 1,798,593 in 2010) in the United States and within cities such as Baltimore it has some of the most underserved communities.
Many black banks and credit unions were formed to serve the interest of a disenfranchised black community that were not allowed to bank with mainstream white banks, also they have a strong track record of reinvesting into the local community and loaning to small black business.
In short keeping you spending and saving and banking black is for the good of the black community!
Despite the large population black owned banks and credit unions in Maryland number just one as far we know (listed below!), however Washington D.C. has a few more options and you can look at our posts for the surrounding states Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
