You probably have never heard his name before, but he has put together some of the  most lucrative deals for major celebrities and business owners in the black community. We are talking the likes of Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey and more.

On Monday, Hollywood agent to the start Charles King launched his own media firm aimed at serving multicultural audiences.

charles kingKing leaves behind one of the most powerful firms in the mecca of media, movies and more, William Morris Endeavor. He is launching the Los Angeles based media holding company by the name of MACRO. They will develop and distribute featured films, television series, and digital content. The target of MACRO are the African-American, Latino and multicultural markets.

“There were two major catalysts that propelled me to move to LA and enter the industry over 15 years ago: my vision to build a media company one day and the knowledge that what I saw on screen did not fully reflect the spectrum of who we are,” King said. “It’s clear to me now, as it was then, that there’s a growing appetite for content that serves the more diverse world we live in.

During my career as an agent, it has been an honor to help build the careers of and represent some of the most compelling artists of our time.

Launching MACRO fulfills the vision I had all those years ago, and at a time when our industry needs it the most. I am humbled by all of the support I’ve received industry-wide from my WME family, clients and friends.”

Charles King started his career with the Williams Morris Agency in 1997. He started in the mail room. He moved up the ranks proving his worth and hard work ethic by becoming the company’s first African-American partner at William Morris Endeavor. Some of the stars he has represented over the years include Terrence Howard, Joel Osteen, Bishop T. D. Jakes, Andree 3000, Craig Brewer, Janelle Monae, and more.

King’s story is amazing and one the black community should reflect on with their young people. We don’t often think in this day and age one can work their way up from the mail room of a large company to become a partner, but this is exactly what he did starting in 1997.

Only, Kind didn’t just stop at becoming a partner, he started his own firm to take over the the media world.
