Black Lives Matter Movement Refuses to Endorse any Political Candidates for the 2016 Presidential Election| Good Move?

by | Mar 10, 2016 | Politics News | 0 comments

The Black Lives Matter movement first started after the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida in 2012. It gained national ground after 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer. The movement has been invoking justice for freedom and justice for all black lives.

Alicia Garza, the speaker at the seventh annual Black Women’s Roundtable Policy Forum, stated that the organization will not endorse any candidate, may it be Presidential or otherwise. The reason for this, according to Garza, is that they do not think any candidate has felt they are accountable to the Black Lives Matter movement. They have only seen candidates appearing to be devoted to the cause of organization in order for them to help themselves.

But the organization will not bar any member of their organization to independently endorse a candidate.

The organization is not closing its doors to endorsing and being involved in politics.

Garza stated that they might be involved in politics in the future but not right now since it is not the right time for the organization.
