Ana Barbara Ferreira, a Brazilian teacher from Sao Paulo, had to take off her teacher’s hat and put on her superhero cape when she found out her student was being bullied because of her hair. Another student told a little girl her hair was “ugly” which understandably hurt her feelings.
Ms. Ferreira shared her experience on Facebook and her post has been liked by more than 142,000 people and shared 30,000 times.
Ms. Ferreira said:
“Yesterday, my student told me there was a boy saying that her hair was ugly. She was very sad. At that moment, the only thing I could tell her was that she was wonderful and shouldn’t care about what he was saying.
“Today, I woke up and remembered what happened and decided to wear the same hairstyle she used to wear.
When she saw me, she came running to hug me and say that I was beautiful, and I told her: ‘Today I’m beautiful like you!’.”
It is our job to encourage our children to love themselves exactly the way they are. This made up standard of beauty is just that, made up. This small gesture may have changed this young lady’s life forever!
Ms. Ferreira is a true hero!
