On 28th January, Oprah made a whooping $19.5 million from a tweet promoting Weight Watchers. The tweet, which contained a link to a video announcing that she had lost 26 pounds by using the company’s diet products, sent the company’s stock soaring by 16 percent.
Oprah, who is the largest individual shareholder in the company, saw her stake gain $19.5 million in just one hour.
In October 2015, Oprah made millions of dollars when Weight Watchers announced that she would be joining the company’s board of directors. The announcement saw the share prices of the struggling company double from $6.79 to $13.92. Oprah’s stake in the company gained by $71.6 million in a single trading day.
In 2012, Oprah came under fire when she begged her nine million Twitter followers to tune into her struggling cable network OWN to boost its rating. The tweet was deleted at the request of a ratings agency.
