Beyonce Knowles reportedly used her Super Bowl appearance to honor the Black Panthers, question police brutality and make people think about how different racial symbols have been used in society. Beyonce typically stays away from most political issues, but she has been writing about more of these topics on her recent album.
It has been reported that the United Kingdom’s largest media company, Global, has decided the mega star’s Super Bowl performance of “Formation” was too political and should be removed from the company’s websites, according to The Mirror. In addition to websites, the song has been removed from their radio stations play list.
“It was made absolutely clear Beyonce was not to be mentioned. No photos, no music videos, no Beyonce,” a source told the Mirror. “Anything that had been published from the Super Bowl performance had to be removed.”
The question is whether this new political stance will impact Beyonce’s record sales and concert revenue. The idea of banning her and the content she produces in the United Kingdom is probably an overreaction. Global should not be telling people to ban certain pieces of content.
You have to wonder whether media companies in the United Kingdom are doing everything they can to promote the concept of free speech. Free speech is something that musical artists have focused on for a very long time. Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z has not shied away from the “controversy”.
But many people don’t believe this will impact Beyonce much as her brand is global and much larger than just the UK. In fact, many believe the banning of Beyonce will only make the people of the United Kingdom what her content even more and keep her in the world media to produce even more record sales and earnings.
What do you think?
