The city of Flint in Michigan has been facing serious drinking water contamination problems. The water is reported to have lethal lead levels endangering the public health. The crisis which began in 2014 has affected many people, with 12,000 kids exposed to the high levels of lead.
Beyonce first discussed the donation efforts during her Formation tour launch. She then inspired her fans to donate to the Flint residents through her tour. The artist’s Parkwood Entertainment in partnership with her humanitarian platform BeyGood promoted online tickets sales for the shows.
The money from her fans was then donated towards the good cause.
Before Beyonce’s Formation show in Detroit, Michigan, Parkwood Entertainment representatives presented the funds to United Way of Genesee County. The cheque was given at a local high school where 14 of its students are set to receive college gifts from Queen Bey.
The students also got tickets to her Detroit performance. In addition, Beyonce through her BeyGood platform is encouraging her fans throughout North America to work with the community.
