The Black Panther Party documentary aired on PBS and was narrated more accurately than usual. The government would lead you to believe that the Black Panthers were a hate group when that is furthest from the truth. The PBS documentary talked about the different initiatives this civic organization had like providing free food for those in need and helping the poor.
Well Bette Midler tuned in to the documentary and asked President Obama to pardon the members of the Black Panther Party that are still incarcerated. Although she received some backlash from the masses, that are gravely misinformed about the Black Panthers, it wonderful to know that some people recognize the truth when they see it. It is sad when a country is ok with a race being harassed, beaten, raped and murdered by police but when that race decides to fight back then the victim is quickly painted as a villain. I could go on for days about the ridiculous hypocrisies of America but I won’t.
Hopefully the President will consider Midler’s suggestion. We all know those men and women do not deserve to be in jail based on the simple fact that the United States police originated from slave patrol which speaks volumes in itself. So in a time where racial tension was high and the Black Panthers were brave enough to take a stand and say you’re not going to keep killing our people, yes these men and women deserve to be free.
