Bessie Coleman was a trailblazer! A black / native woman flying a plane caused quite a stir back in 1921 when she sailed home from Paris where she had just obtained her aviation license, making her the first women of African American and Native American descent to do so.
Coleman did amazing things in the pilot seat and after more training in Europe became a daring stunt pilot. Sadly she died during preparations for an airshow when her plane plummeted to the groud and she was thrown from her seat.
