Ballerina Misty Copeland’s Barbie Doll Has Hit The Shelves!

Misty Copeland became the first African-American woman to be named principal dancer at the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre and honoring their promise of diversity Mattel have decided to immortalise her as a new Barbie doll.

The doll debuted on Monday as part of its Sheroes Collection and like the doll of Ava DuVernay that sold out in 15 minutes it’s probably going to sell by the bucketload.

Copeland said in a press release:

“I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina, and through Barbie, I was able to play out those dreams early on,” and went onto say “It’s an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll.”
