Ava DuVernay to direct a “Star Wars” movie?

Ava DuVernay is getting some attention recently, she is on fire! So much so that there are hints that she may direct an instalment in one of the biggest movie franchises in the whole universe!!!

So what’s the low down?

First off, the sad news is that it won’t be any of the upcoming movies. Gareth Edwards is working on Rogue One (2016 release), Rian Johnson on Episode VIII (2017 release) and Colin Trevorrow on Episode IX (2019 release).

Now, you see these are all dudes!!! Not cool really, considering plenty of women geek out over Star Wars too.

JJ Abrams was talking to Nerdist and the question about what female director he could see adding their credits to the universe. Abrams said

“To me, the knee-jerk reaction if I had to is Ava DuVernay, who I think would just kill it,”

and

“She is as much a fan of genre movies … and hearing her talk about, not just Star Wars, but hearing her talk about those kinds of films is evidence that she would just kill it,” continuing with “When you look at her work in Selma, which was as well told, sophisticated and humane as I think has come out in the last decade, I mean, she is just — if she can do that story that well, there’s no question she’d kill [a Star Wars] movie.”

DuVernay kept interest up and tweeted

The force is strong with this one. xo https://t.co/FivfnY3Mud

If we keep the pressure on we could see a 2020 release maybe?

Let’s hope the Star Wars Universe gets a little more female and a little more racially diverse!
