All this Rallying for A $15/hr Minimum Wage Is Nonsense. Build Skill, Don’t Beg For A Hand Up. (Part 1)

I have been sitting back watching this beef (pun intended)  over minimum wage develop over the past few years. It has escalated over the past few months and culminated in a massive organized rally, march and walk out by fast food workers across the country. They are pissed about making minimum wage of $7.40/hr in their fast food jobs and demanding more.

People are upset they can’t feed their growing family needs in this economy that has everything from the water bill and gas to clothing and food rising what seems to be exponentially. Not sure if you can do the quick math, but $7.40/hr doesn’t go very far in this economy. In fact, a full time worker worker making $7.40 at a fast food restaurant like McDonald’s will earn $15,000 a year. This makes tending to family very difficult for many people.

All this Rallying for A $15/hr Minimum Wage Is Nonsense. Build Skill, Don’t Beg For A Hand Up.

Yesterday, fast food workers from 50 States across the country walked off their jobs in a massive protest and show of solidarity for one another.

It was a very powerful gesture and quickly grabbed the attention of the news, people across the country and even law makers. In fact, U.S. Representative John Conyers is slated to join the Detroit rally today to lend some support and power to their situation.

Detroit was by far the most explosive of all the rallies thus far. One McDonald’s was shut down do to the protest.

Crux of the Matter: Why this is nonsense?

Enough background, allow me to move into why I believe this is just down right RI-DAMN-DICULOUS and shouldn’t be encouraged or praised. You can call me a conservative, hater or whatever you wish to form your lips to say about me, but i’m about to give you the truth. Apparently, we need someone to say it because rational minds are being drowned out in this misguided hoopla.

1) If minimum wage goes up to $15/hr at McD’s, then your Big Mac meal is going to be $15

Let me tell you something about how the world of capitalism works. Companies are out to make money. Yes, McDonald’s made something like $500 billion dollars last year…SO! You ever heard someone say to you, don’t count my money? Well, this applies to them as well. You don’t know what their expenses are and so what if that was all profit. They are a publicly traded company that have responsibilities to their share holders to MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE. Why? Because the share holders have their RETIREMENT plans wrapped up in many of these companies and don’t plan on working their entire lives, so they want companies like McDonald’s and KFC and the like to make billions of dollars so one day they can sit on the beach and relax. If you were smart, maybe you would take part in this as well.

Secondly on this point, if the “Meal Deals” go to $15 each, who in the world are going to buy them to support the doubling of your pay?? Let me tell you something, NOT THIS GUY! Corporations are not going to just EAT the doubling of your salary. They are going to pass it on to consumers. Consumers are going to reject this by not visiting your store.

These corporations will need to cut back and you will be fired. This is so silly, I can’t believe I even have to have this discussion.

Don’t quit on me now, Part 2 takes it to the next level. Read here.
