The time it was a St. Louis Police Department member behind the fatal shooting of a black man on Tuesday, Aug. 19th, 2014. However, the man was holding a knife according to police and witnesses.
A spokesperson for the St. Louis Police Department said the man was 23 years old, African American and had stole some muffins and two energy drinks from a local store. At this time, the location of the store is unknown, but we will follow up once the details have been released.
The police said the man was acting in a very unstable manner, pulled a knife out when confronted by the police officers and yelled, “Shoot me now, kill me now,” according to the spokesperson.
It was said the witnesses on the scene are collaborating the statements released by the police that the man was erratic and came within a few feet of the police officers with the knife.
Two officers reported to the scene and both shot the knife wielding man.
The spokes person also stated there were officers on the scene with Tasers and other weapons to deal with the situation, but they acted in a manner that would ensure the safety of the officers in reach of man with the knife.
Obviously, there is high concern for how the crowd of protesters and people in Ferguson, MO. are going to react to the news. They are protesting over the killing of an unarmed, black man just last week by the Ferguson police department.
