The black community and the family of Eric Garner received another slap in the face Tuesday, August 5th, 2014, at the hands of the NYPD. This time it was coming from the police union who says Eric Garner was not put into a choke hold which led to his death.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, the police union denies the accusations by the community, media and even NY Mayor Bill de Blasio claiming Garner was choked to death by the police force.
“It was not a chokehold,” Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch said Tuesday at a press conference at the union’s headquarters. “He was a big man who had to be brought to the ground to be placed under arrest by shorter police officers.”
“Sometimes the use of force is necessary. But it’s never pretty to watch,” Lynch said.

Lynch and the police union, instead of dealing with the facts, chose to take this opportunity to attack the medical examiner’s office who reported the result of Eric Garners death was a choke hold. They called the press release by the medical office political and unprofessional because ‘choke hold’ isn’t a medical term.
However, they did not stop there with their distraction and deflection techniques. Lynch went on to attack the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, for not unequivocally supporting the police department. Which most people were surprised by this because the end result of the job by the mayor and the police should be to protect the people, not cops who abuse the nature of their job to “protect and serve”, but clearly this was his aim.
Lynch went on to say the mayor had no business inviting Al Sharpton into the conversation and should conduct the result independently instead of bringing in someone who has an obvious bias to the NYPD police department. Sharpton has been arrested a few times by the NYPD and has spoken up for many of the infamous cases involving excessive force by police officers.
The Police Union Couldn’t Reach This Conclusion Unless They Were Biased
Many sane people are wondering what in the world are they looking at to come to this conclusion? There is available video of the July 18th arrest leading to the death of Eric Garner from what seems like every angle.
Still pictures clearly show officers forearms under the chin, pressed against the neck and throat of Eric Garner. On video, Garner can be heard saying he cannot breathe, but the offices continue to perform their duty of bringing the seemingly innocent big man to the ground which ultimately led to his death.
One thing is for sure, the black community is outraged over these comments and hopefully will not allow this issue to be swept under the rug.
