The #1 story in the sports world for the past few months has been the fallout behind Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the National Anthem. He’s been called every name in the book and essentially blackballed from the league for his stance. Fans threaten to boycott their teams the second they find out they’re even mulling the thought of signing Kaepernick to their team. Colin has been crucified for his beliefs, punished for his principles and penalized for his protest. But, what about Philadelphia Eagles Defensive End Chris Long?
Now, I hate to bring race into the factor, but it’s rather visible that Long is indeed a white man. He joins a myraid of other players that have decided to continue Kaepernick’s protest, the most notable being Beast Mode himself Oakland Raiders Running Back Marshawn Lynch. Philadelphia Eagles player Malcolm Jenkins held his fist up during the national anthem in protest and Long rapped his arm around Jenkins in supposed support.
In an interview, Chris Long explains why he decided to support the National Anthem Protest, saying, “It’s been a hard week for everybody. It’s not just a hard week for someone being from Charlottesville. It’s a tough week for America.” Based on Chris Long’s statement, he decided to stand in solidarity with the other black players continuing the protest because of the gross display of human decency shown last weekend.
Long supporting the boycott begs an important question. Will he be vilified like Colin Kaepernick and the other black players participating in the protest? Will he lose his job and be ultimately blackballed from the NFL? Is he now an unpatriotic American disrespecting the troops? Yeah, I doubt it!
